Popular Night Vision Accessories

Night vision accessories are often equated in television with images of elite government squads or military special forces, but they are also popular with law enforcement, hunters and even have civilian purposes. These are three of the most popular night vision accessories and their uses.

Night vision binoculars

Night vision binoculars let owners function, even in the worst lighting conditions and darkest environments. These devices gather whatever ambient light is available through the front, such as starlight, moonlight and infra-red, and then amplify it through electrical and chemical processes to produce real time, usable images for the user. Binoculars are used for monitoring faraway targets, usually for purposes of stealth in the case of detective work or hunting or for readiness in the case of security guards watching for potential threats lurking in the darkness.

Night vision goggles

Along the same lines as their counterpart binoculars, night vision goggles use the same technology and methods to give users usable vision in dark environments. However, binoculars are most useful outside ranged targets, whereas goggles are far more effective in close quarters and indoors situations. These are more often utilized by local law enforcement, although they are handy during power outages.

Flashlights

Not everyone who wants night vision wants to conceal their identity, and flashlights are by function a form of night vision and extraordinarily popular with everyone. Hikers and campers consider them a safety necessity, and civilians should always have one or two in their homes for power outages. Law enforcement, military and security professionals prefer tactical flashlights. These lights do not just shine a bright light, but are heavy enough that when carried underhanded at the shoulder can make a quick and effective blunt-force weapon or provide enough mass and strength to knock out the window of a vehicle in an emergency situation.

The term night vision is often associated with green, infrared images made famous during the first Persian Gulf war, but it exists for those wanting secrecy and stealth or to have light at night. From civilians in power outages, to hunters, police and special forces, everyone uses some form of night vision accessory in their normal life.
